Questions

- How skilled do I need to be to join NZAME or a New Zealand Miniatures Club?
This hobby can be fun and rewarding to ANY skill level and NZAME and it’s affiliated Clubs welcome anyone who would like to visit or join, the members are at varying skill levels and no ones work is ‘judged’. Most Clubs do have a rule/request with regards to the age of members and children must be accompanied by a parent if attending Club days or workshops. We have members as young as 5 and more ‘worldly experienced’ members in their late 90’s!
- What do I need to bring to Club or to a meeting?
Most Clubs will have a small ‘visitors fee’ – this will entitle you to a cuppa and biscuits etc and to come along a few times and see if this is indeed a passion you’d like to continue before actually joining as a member. It pays to call the contact for the Club you may attend to see if they are doing a workshop you can join in on, if so they can advise the cost involved and of any tools or requirements that may be needed, it also allows them to prepare a name badge on the day for you so members introduce and welcome you, making you feel more at ease. Other than that small fee the only thing you need to bring would be yourself and a whole lot of enthusiasm!
- What if I want to join a Club but can’t get to all their meetings?
You may be able to become a postal member of a Club – each group or Club have varying ways of meeting and keeping in touch. You can generally attend the meetings that suit you. No pressure is made to be there all the time or for every meeting.
- Do I have to join a Club to be a member of NZAME?
Not at all, although being a member of a Club usually enhances the whole experience with the camaraderie and friendships that one gets from being around those with a similar passion – also the workshops and ideas, use of Club tools and libraries can be invaluable when at your disposal as it is in a Club.
- Can I use the NZAME resources if I’m not a member of NZAME or a Club?
The CD’s and DVD’s are only available to NZAME members sorry. Members of any of the New Zealand Clubs found here on our NZAME website are able to purchase NZAME rulers, woods and moldings but there is an extra 50c NZ charge per piece on the woods and moldings if they are not an NZAME member.
The difficulty in sourcing stock means we are unable to provide to the general public unfortunately.
- Am I able to attend an NZAME Convention if I am not a member of NZAME?
Yes, certainly – but only as a visitor or member of the public. Only NZAME members can attend the Convention as a delegate and the workshops are only available to NZAME members who are delegates attending the Convention.
Only NZAME members items are on display at Conventions (the only exception is if a non-members work is an integral part of a Club display).
